Global News Interview – “Canada considers revoking terror suspect’s citizenship”

I was interviewed by Global National Media on Thursday, August 15th about a story involving 2 terrorism suspects recently arrested on the eve of a terrorism plot in Toronto. They are a father and son duo, thought to have come from Egypt to Canada as permanent residents. The father has since become a citizen of Canada. 

Questions are being made of our Ministers of Immigration and of Public Security about how these 2 persons could have lawfully entered Canada, given that there is a 2015 video on an open-source channel that allegedly shows the father committing an atrocity on behalf of ISIS against one of their prisoners (possibly in either Syria or Iraq).

I was interviewed as a subject knowledge expert and specialist on immigration and citizenship law. I described the obligations of an applicant for permanent resident status to answer questions on a form, a portal, or during an interview with immigration authorities. Such answers must be accurate, complete and forthcoming. Those questions include whether there has ever been participation in any crime, and also any memberships, support, or association with or for any organization, whether political or otherwise.

I also explained the legislative authority that could be used in a case like this to revoke Canadian citizenship.
